The Sounds of Swing is a 17-piece big band that keeps classic swing music alive, with arrangements inspired by Glenn Miller, Woody Herman, and the great dance orchestras of the swing era. The group started back in 1991 with a single fundraiser for the Effingham High School Band, and many of the original members—local band directors who truly loved this music—decided it was too special to stop there. The band was originally led by Wayne Bradtke and has been under the direction of Dennis Lading since 2006. Today, they continue to give back through performances that support school music programs, along with appearances at festivals and community events throughout the area.
What makes The Sounds of Swing special is the atmosphere they create—full brass, smooth melodies, and that classic big band sound that feels timeless and welcoming. We’re excited to feature them at our Swing Into the New Year event, and tickets are already going fast. If you’re planning to come, now’s the time to grab yours and be part of a truly special night. 🎷
